I am so honored to have been awarded the opportunity to paint a mural in our downtown!! The mural was completed over the summer and unveiled just as we opened the Mint Festival. It was amazing to see all the people posing and taking pictures with this intentionally interactive mural.
The mural highlights and brings attention to our rich railroad history. It also has some features that make it interactive and fun for all ages.
This mural was made possible by funding from the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, St. Johns Community Fund, St Johns DDA and Clinton County Arts Council.
The mural is located on the back of our local Gil-Roys Hardware store. One interactive feature is the giant paint brush where people can come and pose as a painter of the mural!
Another way to interact is to stand in front of the 3-D hole in the ground in front of the train. Pose as if stopping the train from hitting the wrecked tracks!
